I met up with one of my girlfriends for lunch today. We hadn't seen each other in a while so it was nice to catch up over a leisurely meal. We went to Ra Sushi in Tempe and shared a few sushi rolls. This was the Crazy Monkey roll, and believe me it was crazy. It had salmon and cream cheese and was topped with avocado, drizzled with mango and eel sauces, and sprinkled with cashews and red tempura bits. Very tasty!

I was out hiking in the Superstition Mountains when I noticed the shadow of this saguaro framed perfectly against the diamond shaped bolder sitting behind it. That made this a landscape shot I just couldn't pass up. It was a quick day hike and a long trail so I didn't have my DSLR with me, only a point and shoot, but I think I was still able to capture the beauty of the landscape pretty well.

I was just thinking it's time to get those piggies pretty for summer. That's what inspired me to get this shot of some of the various colors of piggy polish, along with some colorful toe rings.

Feeling a bit artistic, I snapped a few photos of my son's saxophone. In post production I gave this photo a funky feel by darkening the background and adding a neon glow in several layers to get a nice color variation.

I captured this shot of this beautiful butterfly at the Phoenix Botanical Gardens in their butterfly garden. Their guide identified it as a zebra longwing, however the other photos I've seen of zebra longwings did not have the same bright red spots and beautiful blue eyes. If you happen to know what type of butterfly this is, please let me know.

Arizona is well known for its beautiful sunsets and this one was certainly no exception. I exposed this shot to silhouette the two sagauros against the colorful backdrop of the sky. This photo really captured the full spectrum of color this sunset offered.

I saw this beautiful buckeye in the butterfly gardens at the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens the other day. It's amazing how beautiful something so small can be!

I was enjoying a glass of wine last night and just couldn't resist getting a shot of this bottle.

I captured this photo of a dragonfly a couple weeks ago. I was at the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens to see the Chihuly glass art exhibit and this little guy was hanging out on an aloe vera plant near the sun. He didn't seem to mind me getting close. In fact, I think he was actually posing for me. The yellows, oranges and reds you see in the background are the from the Chihuly sun.

This hand painted Russian nesting doll was sent to me as a gift. The colors really stand out in this photo. To capture this shot, I placed the main focus on the largest doll in the foreground, while blurring the smaller dolls that are sitting in the background.

Another tasty treat from Ra Sushi in Tempe, Arizona. One of the things I love most about sushi is that when a roll is presented to you its not just a meal, but a work of art on sitting on your plate. This particular one, a mango lobster roll, looked ...so colorful and ohhh so tasty, I just couldn't resist capturing a shot of it. Everytime I look at it I start craving sushi. This roll is filled with lobster meat, cucumber and avocado and topped with sliced mango, a creamy sauce and masago, with a drizzle of kiwi wasabi sauce lining the side of the plate. Sushi anyone?

Happy Independence Day!! I hope everyone has a safe & fun 4th of July weekend! In honor of the holiday, I snapped this photo of a large US flag near my home. The sun was behind the flag, shining through the fabric, giving it some nice highlights. Effects were done in post processing to enhance the ripples in the fabric and give the stars a nice glow.

I saw this beautiful flower at the local nursery and it was so unique I just had to capture it. It's called Gaillardia 'Fanfare'

This is a photograph of my daughter's bass clarinet, lying at an angle across its case. The black velvet from the case creats a nice solid backdrop for the photo and gives the background some slight texture.

Well its the middle of June and everyone always thinks its insanely hot in Arizona this time of year. The truth is, this summer has been relatively cool so far. Right now for instance, it's only 85 degrees. That's perfect weather for getting out and seeing some of what AZ has to offer. Go for a hike, lounge by the pool or take a stroll through the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens. That's where I was when I saw these beautiful wild flowers showing off their spring color late into the season. This goes to show that the desert isn't all just dirt and cactus.

I was going for a stroll around Fountain park and stopped to watch the ducklings swimming in the lake. This mother and her ducklings came out of the lake after their swim and walked practically right up to me so I could get this shot of them warming up in the grass after their afternoon swim.

The red barrel cactus in my front yard is blooming right now. I just love the colors of these flowers with their subtle tones of pinks, oranges and yellows. The harshness of the desert never ceases to amaze me, but there is so much delicate beauty to be found in the desert as well. These flowers for instance look so delicate and fragile in sharp contrast to the trecherous spines they sit amongst.

I was out and about yesterday afternoon and saw this painting. The colors and texture really caught my eye.

Sand & Sun in San Felipe : These photos were taken at Pete's Camp, just outside San Felipe in Baja California, Mexico. The warm waters of the Sea of Cortez come right up to the camp at high tide. But when the tide rolls out, it exposes long stretches of rippled sand dabbled with rocks, sea shells and sand dollars.
